Timber-framed town-house with an environmental agenda

This project represents an ongoing interest in timber framed structures applied to small scale urban projects.Flexibility and buildability are key criteria. A bespoke pre-fabricated kit facilitated a fast build super-structure programme allowing us to inhabit after 16 weeks.Open plan living and cellular rooms are framed within the modular frame. Changing family requirements are accommodated by demountable partitioning and non reliance on load-bearing walls. The frame is made out of glu-lam larch members. These are bolted together using pre-tested connections. Braced buttress finwall sections stabilise the structure. Perimeter storage and service areas buffer the party walls maximising the usable space within. Timber pellet boiler heating, natural materials including flax and wood fibre board express an environmental agenda.
