Light Modernist Response to an Elevated Coastal Site, Expressing Layered Natural Materials and Colours
17 December 2006
The site is located on a ridge above the coast. The architecture responds to the site on a number of levels. Living areas are on the upper level to obtain panoramic water views and cooling summer breezes. Street corner elevations present a private secure feel. Natural materials and colours reflect the bushland location, layered and stepped to lighten as they rise. Roof edges are feathered to express lightness. Passive solar design, water collection and reuse within the building extend the sense of lightness upon the environment for this large family residence.
