Minister for Sport visits Lee Valley Athletics Centre

Under construction since June 2005, the Lee Valley Athletics Centre is due for completion in September. It will be the largest indoor and outdoor facility of its kind serving London and the South East. This £13 million, 9,700m² structure will house a 200 metre six lane track, a 110 metre sprint straight, permanent seating for 500 inside and out, full throwing and jumping facilities and a number of physiotherapy and ‘strength and conditioning’ rooms. The Centre will be used primarily for the training of elite athletes but will also act as the home of the prominent Enfield & Haringey Athletics Club. It is also thought that it will become a key venue at the 2012 Olympics. On visiting the centre and seeing the progress first hand, the Minister for Sport, Rt. Hon. Richard Caborn MP said: ‘The Lee Valley Athletics Centre is an example of how seriously we want to position London as one of the World’s leading cities for sport.’
