WAN Commercial Award 2017 Winner Announced

The Glasshouse at Goonoo Goonoo Station by Tanner Kibble Denton Architects claims the Commercial Award 2017

We are pleased to announce that Tanner Kibble Denton Architects are winners of the WAN Commercial Award 2017 for their rich and warm design of The Glasshouse at Goonoo Goonoo Station.

Tanner Kibble Denton Architects’ design was chosen by our committed expert jury panel, who viewed a shortlist of six entries to select their overall winner. This year’s judges who were chosen for their expertise in this sector were: Sarah Brown, Director at TateHindle, Benedict Tranel, Principal at Gensler, Ian Bogle, Founder at Bogle Architects and Chris Brandon, Managing Principal at Perkins + Will.

Jury quotes:

“I thought that it was beautiful, I really like the natural materials outside and the inside spaces were just so soft and elegant. It has a nice contrast of so many things and when you look at it closely there’s quite a lot of materials, but actually it feels like there's almost just three materials and that’s a really lovely arrangement.” Sarah Brown

“A clever display of well executed sensitive design.” Ian Bogle

“The richness of it is in the textures of the materials. The journey into it is done very well, where it sort of unravels all of the spaces.” Chris Brandon

“I found myself taken with the sequence. It's a really clear parti about how to intervene and then you have this lovely moment of discovery when you arrive, it's unclear but there’s a hint of something as you approach and then when you walk in. Even then, you’re only getting a glimpse and then eventually you are drawn into it. It's very elegant, refined and it creates a warmth with the materials used, I  think it’s really well done in that way.  Also the response to what is existing is good. Essentially it's also interesting because it's an infill project in a rural setting.” Benedict Tranel

We would also like to congratulate Graham Baba Architects with their project Washington Fruit & Produce Co, Yakima, Washington, United States on being awarded the Best in Americas regional winner within the WAN Commercial Award 2017.

We would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Tanner Kibble Architects for their winning design and also thank our jury panel for their expertise, along with everyone who entered into the WAN Commercial Award 2017.
