As the Thames riverfront east of London continues to be redeveloped KSS have unveiled a new masterplan for Purfleet
The KSS designed masterplan for the regeneration of Purfleet has been submitted to Thurrock Council for Outline approval.
Our client, Purfleet Centre Regeneration Limited, supported by a consultant team of KSS, Exterior Architecture, Savills, Waterman Group & Kyanite Advisors and with substantial input from the local community, have developed a plan for Purfleet that knits together the existing communities around a new urban core.
The masterplan has been developed around the key propositions of providing housing-led regeneration, which incorporates up to 2850 new homes; a new town centre with local amenities; improvements to public transport access; and liberating the Thames waterfront.
New employment opportunities will be created throughout the masterplan from the retail and amenity uses in the town centre, an integrated medical centre and education facilities as well as a new film and television studio facility, the first complex of its kind in the UK in 50 years.
The proposals will build on Purfleet’s existing assets including the extensive riverfront, accessibility to and from London and strong local community engagement by creating a new town centre that is the focus of a sustainable local economy.
This in turn will be supported by the fostering of a creative industries hub alongside the new film and television studios with nearby facilities at High House Production Park. Together, these will create the ideal conditions for elevating the proposals from a local focus regeneration scheme to being a destination in its own right, one that the existing community can rightly be proud of.
The first properties in this long-term vision are expected to be completed in 2020.
