The first large project in the Fisherman’s Bend area of Melbourne nears completion

The Fishermans Bend project in Melbourne, Australia, is no longer just a blueprint, with the region’s first residential project, Gravity, designed by Plus Architecture, topping out this week.

The practical completion of Gravity is a major milestone for both Fishermans Bend and the Victorian Government, which intend to set a new benchmark for smart, sustainable development and high-density community living.

The pioneering development in this 465ha precinct, Gravity continues to set the pace for the biggest urban renewable area in Australia. Not only was it the first tower approved, it was also the first to go to construction and is now the first to top out.

15 months after construction commenced, the 29-storey tower now stands as a testament to all this precinct will soon become.

Combining a quality design ethos with a peerless understanding of the elements that deliver a great residential experience, the award-winning Plus Architecture have created a signature building.

“Fishermans Bend is new territory; we are only now starting to see the precinct materialise and it is exciting to be at the forefront of this movement,” said Director of Plus Architecture, Ian Briggs.

“As lovers of this city and advocates of positive, design-led development, we feel very fortunate to have been entrusted with Fishermans Bend’s first building.”

Setting an example for the precinct, Gravity makes the most of its prominent corner location on Montague and Gladstone streets, with a design that uses the changing light of day to project a dynamic visual presence and establish a new landmark.

“Our team worked tirelessly to create a design of significance, with a façade that would be both distinctive and complementary to Melbourne’s city skyline,” said Briggs.

In writing the next chapter of Melbourne’s growth story, Plus Architecture worked collaboratively with State Government departments and agencies, as well as officers from City of Port Phillip and City of Melbourne to realise their shared vision for the new inner-city community.

The radiant splendour and signature architectural style of Gravity’s one and two bedroom contemporary apartments delivers enduring appeal, exquisite detailing and sophisticated finishes.

Designed to speak to Fishermans Bend’s rich industrial history, its bright future and its prime location on Melbourne’s city fringe, Gravity boasts an integrated retail offering, grand lobby and exclusive rooftop, where a teppanyaki grill and bar, spa, outdoor cinema and designer lounge, epitomise Melbourne’s acclaimed livability and paves the way for future development.

The WAN Awards Tall Buildings category is now open until 30th June.
