ODA New York has recently completed this apartment block that makes the most of a straightforward modular approach
Located across from MoMA PS1 in Long Island City, USA, 2222 Jackson Ave is a rental building that has recently completed.
Designed from the inside out, the building is a series of units built with a sequence of simple modules each 13 ft wide. The studio apartments capture one such bay, 32 ft in depth, while the one and two bedrooms occupy two and three bays respectively, each 25 ft deep. This straightforward modular approach allows for vastly increased flexibility and adaptability, simultaneously providing an efficient and easy to build construction process. With the increased depth of the studio apartments, each projects beyond the façade producing two complementary benefits; a mid-building “corner” window for the units and a terrace for the apartment above.
The overall result of this simple program is a powerful composition of 50 terraces along the thick façade, where residents can interact with nature and the community.
