BuckleyGrayYeoman wins planning consent for the refurbishment of a bonded warehouse in Manchester, UK
BuckleyGrayYeoman is to rejuvenate a key element of Manchester’s industrial heritage and create a contemporary mixed-use development.
The Award-winning architecture and design practice has won planning consent for the refurbishment of the Bonded Warehouse in central Manchester on behalf of Allied London. The former 125,000 sq ft, 1860s industrial warehouse was previously occupied by Granada Television, the oldest operating purpose-built television studio in the UK.
As part of Manchester’s St John Masterplan, the regeneration of the Bonded Warehouse will express the building’s rich industrial heritage. The original facades will be retained, and the majority of the key characteristics of the existing structure, including original timber doors, metal details and the Crittall style windows, will be kept and refurbished.
The scheme will include six levels of office and retail space. High quality offices will occupy the top three floors, with retail occupying the lower three floors. The interiors will feature original brickwork and exposed Victorian details. New light wells on the ground floors will bring more light into the lower ground floors and will breathe life back into the old warehouse building.
