First plans revealed for Old Oak Park redevelopment of Cargiant lot in London

Public consultation has begun on the first plans unveiled for the redevelopment of the old Cargiant site at Old Oak Common in West London. PLP/Architecture and Arup have drawn up the initial plans to transform the 46 acre site into a new neighbourhood with 9,000 new homes, a high street, public squares, cultural quarter, and over a kilometre of canal frontage.

New transport connections will also be added, making it a hub for job opportunities. The high street that will run through the neighbourhoods will connect new stations with the Grand Union Canal and Wormwood Scrubs.

The high street will also be home to one million sq ft of commercial office space, as well as a new cultural quarter, all of which will support around 8,000 new jobs. Alongside the new residential, commercial and cultural spaces will be schools, nurseries, play spaces, health facilities, restaurants, bars and a range of other uses that will create not just a place for new residents but a new community for all of West London.

Lee Polisano, president of PLP/Architecture said: “Our vision is to create a new London neighbourhood, building on its emerging exceptional transport infrastructure celebrating its canal heritage and creating a strong identity based on exemplary place-making.”
