Inspired by New York’s beloved brownstones, Luca Andrisani’s designs are more than just a pretty façade

Designed by renowned architect Luca Andrisani and located in the heart of cosmopolitan Clinton Hill in New York City, Aperture 538 adds a modern twist to a historic neighbourhood. The building takes its cues from the famous New York brownstones that surround it.

The exterior, an abstract interpretation of the Brooklyn Bridge, is adorned with an operable copper screen covering the façade. The material has been treated to allow it to patina over time, effectively creating a unique piece of art for each apartment. Movable shutters in front of windows and balconies allow residents views of the tree-lined streets surrounding them.

New York-based Luca Andrisani Architects is one of a new generation of architects with an artistic interest in the craft and juxtaposition of timeless, unconventional, cutting edge materials, as evidenced by Aperture 538’s striking copper façade. The firm strives to design environments that ‘balance intrigue with sustainable function and beauty’.

The WAN Façade 2015 award is now open for entries.
