$800 million EM Quartier completes

The EM Quartier, part of a collection of malls known as District EM, in Bangkok, Thailand, designed by LEESER Architecture which also includes the recently renovated Emporium and future project EM Sphere. The 2.7 million sq ft, $800 million mixed-use project is poised to become a world-class destination for shopping, dining and entertainment.

LEESER Architecture has created a design that evokes the unpredictability and beauty of both the natural and urban environments. The buildings alter the pure shape of the traditional spiral, floor plates are shifted so they do not align with the floors above. The irregularity reflects organic imperfections, creating the perfect environment for outdoor terraces, which blur the boundaries between the interior and exterior. The design pushed the idea of space and openness through the ample use of glass between soft curves of the buildings.

Located near the Bangkok Sky Train, the luxury mall comprises retail and entertainment venues, as well as an abundance of lush, green areas. Key features include six stories of dining terraces atop a helical floor slab, an eight theatre cinema complex, including an Imax Theatre, pedestrian passages, floating gardens, and a five-story waterfall, as well as two storeys of automated underground parking.
