Revealed: five boldly flamboyant façades for Miami’s new Museum Garage

New York practice, Nadine Johnson & Associates is busy working on the latest developments of the Miami Design District, which continues to add to its mix of significant architecture, public art installations and luxury retail.

The project has just entered PHASE III, with the construction of 20 new buildings to house 50 additional luxury and contemporary brands.

One of the highlights of the development will be a Museum Garage, featuring art and design installations on five wildly different façades. The structure will house contemporary brands on the ground floor and provide parking on the upper levels.

Curated by architect Terence Riley, former curator of architecture and design at the Museum of Modern Art, the Museum Garage will present the work of architects K/R, Keenen Riley, Work AC, Clavel Arquitectos, Nicolas Buffe, J. Mayer H, and Sagmeister & Walsh. Among them will be an installation of real cars on the face of the building, a front of interlocking puzzle pieces and Baroque motifs written large.

Those projects will join existing structures by the likes of Sou Fujimoto, Aranda/Lasch, Aranguren & Gallegos, K/R, Johnston Marklee, Neri and Hu and Studio Gang.

Scheduled for completion by August 2016, Phase III will bring the number of stores to 100 in the neighbourhood. A condominium and hotel are timetabled to open in 2017. In addition, The Miami Design District will feature operations from chefs Joël Robuchon and Jean-Georges Vongerichten.

The 2015 WAN Facade Awards are now open for entries.
