C.F. Møller architects finalised a new house in Aarhus.

Recently completed, Villa R is a single-family house located in Aarhus, Denmark.
C.F. Møller Architects were selected to design the private residence that is located at the edge of a forest, as close to the trees as possible.

Inspired by
the unique relation to the woods, the project’s aim was to create a house that brings the forest inside through large glass panels, and creates an ever-changing seasonal environment for the interior living spaces.

Due to the local regulations the house had to occupy less than 20 percent of the site area and be only one-storey tall. The architects delivered a functional house with dedicated spaces for children, without interfering with the requirements of the challenge.

The solution was a partially underground floor which acts as the building's base, with children's rooms, playrooms and access to an outdoor patio. The upper part, covered with dark, patinated zinc, is seemingly hovering above this base. It contains living rooms with multiple aspects and access to a raised, south-facing wooden terrace with sitting-steps.The upper part also faces the forest and treetops on one side, receiving plenty of daylight from the other side.

The design and build of the 300 sq m Villa R took two years and was completed in 2014. C.F. Møller is one of the oldest and largest architectural practice in Scandinavian area.
