Sales gallery for SPARK-designed Vanke-Shoukai Mixed-use Development now open

The sales gallery for 391,000 sq m mixed-use development in the Daxing district of Beijing has officially completed. Designed by SPARK - the architecture team for the wider mixed-use scheme - the gallery is comprised of two key volumes; a cantilevered office box and a circular structure with a wedge-shaped void.

Externally, the development is defined by gentle landscaping with a circular motif which can be found in slight hollows and mosaic forms. SPARK suggests that the arrangement of this sales gallery is designed to act as a counterpoint to the dense developments already existing in Beijing.

The wider mixed-use development is a Vanke-Shoukai joint-venture which will bring a new leisure and business centre to Daxing. Located to the north of Nian Tan Park on two neighbouring plots of land, the scheme will integrate a 120m-high office tower, a Citadines serviced apartment block, and a shopping mall.

SPARK Director Jan Felix Clostermann details: “We aimed to create a variety of atmospheres and scales, and a range of interior and exterior spaces. We hope this hybrid of urban and ‘natural’ spaces will be a successful model for anchoring a newly developing peripheral area.”

The development has been designed to encourage users to wander slowly throughout the site, discovering the retail outlets and eateries at their leisure. Internal terraces within the mall act as extensions of the shop fronts, and external pathways provide links between activity zones.

This mixed-use scheme is well positioned to benefit from a planned airport in Daxing, maximising the business potential of the development.
