'No risk to the structural integrity of the building' affirms British Land and Oxford Properties, with full investigation underway

Co-developers British Land and Oxford Properties have confirmed that two steel bolts have broken on the recently-completed Leadenhall Building (The Cheesegrater) in London. An area at the base of the 736ft-hight tower in The City has been cordoned off as a safety measure and The Building Control Department has been notified.

Whilst a full investigation has been initiated, the co-developers have sustained that the breakage of the steel bolts will not impact the structural integrity of the building as the design allows for isolated events of this nature.

No-one has been injured as a result of the incident, despite a section of one of the bolts falling to the ground at the side of the building. The bolts in question connect the nodes on the megaframe.

The Leadenhall Building was designed by Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners with structural engineers Arup and contractor Laing O’Rourke.
