Tonkin Liu exhibition about Shell Lace Structure on show at RIBA until 8 October
Following five years of intense research with Arup, London-based design studio Tonkin Liu has released a new publication and associated exhibition at the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA). The book, entitled The Evolution of Shell Lace Structure, focuses on a unique technique generated by the firm as a result of this research.
The complex research scheme undertaken by Tonkin Liu considers the structural principles expressed in variation in shells over a 500 million year period, the art of tailoring, and digital manufacturing technology, and relates these practices to architectural design.
In line with the book release, the RIBA is hosting an exhibition which will be open until 18 October at 66 Portland Place, London. Tonkin Liu: The Evolution of Shell Lace Structure is open to the public free of charge.
Earlier this week, Mike Tonkin and Anna Liu gave a sell-out talk at the RIBA on the topic of Shell Lace Structure. Given the popular demand for this presentation, the RIBA has booked a repeat of the event for Tuesday 7 October at 6.15pm. The talk will last for one hour and booking is essential.
