Ozer+Tulgan Architects-designed Garanti Bank Regional HQ under construction
The Ozer+Tulgan Architects-designed regional headquarters building for Garanti Bank is currently under construction in Ankara, Turkey. Securing the honour of Highly Commended in the International Property Awards, the 5,520 sq m commercial facility has been designed with a focus on sustainability across all 15 floors.
A cluster of interlocking volumes creates an intriguing building form when viewed from the street, with a range of different finishes activating the façade. Wide expanses of glazing are counteracted by smooth opaque walls, stepped back to form open-air terraces for the office workers.
A double façade system can be found on the south and east sides with the buffer zone supporting the building’s heating system in the winter. In the summer, movable glass louvres will enable the hot air to escape from the buffer zone, keeping the interior conditions pleasant for employees. This area also aids sound insulation from the street below.
The building is comprised of eight above-grade levels and seven storeys below grade. The underground portion of the project includes five car park levels, capable of hosting 40 vehicles, plus a technical floor and a bank branch floor. Above ground level are two floors dedicated to the bank branch and five storeys of office space.
To further aid the sustainability credentials of the project, Ozer+Tulgan Architects has incorporated heat pumps, a rain water collection and storage system, a green roof, and photovoltaic panels to generate electricity for the external lighting. Interior lighting will be controlled by precision light sensors which measure the levels of light and activate LEDs to the required brightness in response.
