WEISS/MANFREDI-designed office building and visitor reception for Novartis captured in stunning photographs
WEISS/MANFREDI Architecture/Landscape/Urbanism has released glossy new images of two completed forms the firm designed for the Novartis Pharmaceuticals Corporation in East Hanover, New Jersey. Building 335 and the Visitor Reception Building completed in December 2012 and January 2013 respectively, however this is the first time that photographs of the campus have been cleared for release.
A 140,000 sq ft oncology office building termed ‘Building 335’ comprises five floors of open-plan commercial accommodation. These five levels are connected by a spiralling ribbon of ‘living rooms’ which look out over the surrounding 230-acre campus, creating inspiring venues for impromptu meetings, interdisciplinary collaborations and alternative workspaces.
Natural lighting plays a key role in the development, with oscillating acid etched, reflective and clear glass creating a curtain wall that mirrors the landscape. This arresting façade is sliced through with open-air terraces and bands of clear glazing which animate the exterior. Wood finishes contrast directly with the heavy use of glass, giving a tactile quality to the building form.
The 3,350 sq ft Visitor Reception Building is defined by a sculptural roof form that swoops gracefully across the grassy landscape, anchored by an expanse of glass. The pleated structural ceiling is said to reflect ‘Novartis’ spirit of technological innovation’, providing a memorable reception space for visitors to the facility. This campus gateway has achieved LEED Gold Certification, with a solar array canopy set within the parking area.
