Samoo releases first details of completed Korea East-West Power Headquarters
Korea East-West Power Company (EWP) is one of the leading state-owned companies specialising in electric power generation for the Korean peninsula. As a leading innovative energy company, the EWP required a new headquarters building that would not only symbolise its landmark status but also integrate sustainable technologies to realise a truly green workplace.
Designed with the theme of ‘Synergy Plant’, the design team at Samoo Architects & Engineers focused on creating a headquarters building that is dynamic, efficient, and sustainable. Utilising the site’s height difference of approximately 14m, various facilities were located with maximum accessibilities & openness.
For the main tower, a double-skinned atrium runs through the eastern facade enabling natural ventilation while balconies are placed on the western facade to provide shading and a place for the employees to rest. The depths of the floorplans have been carefully studied to maximise natural lighting as well as cross-ventilation.
With a clear focus on sustainability and utilising multiple technologies including BIPV, PV, geo-thermal heating, natural lighting/ventilation, water-recycling, and others, the new headquarters building is designed to substantially decrease energy consumption compared to typical office buildings.
