Mozarteum Brasileiro Theatre opens during third Música em Trancoso 2014 Festival
In March this year, the third Música em Trancoso 2014 Festival was held at a bold new development by Luxembourg-based design studio VALENTINY hvp architects. The Mozarteum Brasileiro Theatre in Brazil is a rustic concrete and steel scheme with a dramatically-curving silhouette which contrasts with the clean lines of artistic details set within its shotcrete walls.
Designed by François Valentiny, the Mozarteum Brasileiro Theatre consists of three main elements: one indoor performance venue with 1,100 seats; one outdoor performance venue, also with 1,100 seats; and a Facilities Building with eight rehearsal rooms, a bar and meeting rooms.
The swooping curves of the open-air performance space are set against subtle geometric detailing, such as triangular openings and generously-sized panels etched in bronze. The latter have been designed by Brazilian artist Maria Bonomi with engravings that refer to the lush natural setting of this magnificent theatre.
During the Música em Trancoso 2014 Festival, young musicians and more established artists were brought together over a period of eight days to share their talents in genres from classical to popular music. The concerts took place in both the indoor and outdoor performance venues and were free to attend, while the Facilities Building hosted a series of musical masterclasses.
