Could you design the UK Pavilion for the Milan Expo 2015? Entries welcome below...
Expressions of interest are being sought for the design of the UK Pavilion at the Milan Expo 2015 (visit microsite here). The international event will be hosted by the Italian city from 1 May 2015 until 31 October 2015 with more than 140 countries expected to participate in a global celebration of business and creativity. Deadline for expressions of interest is 19 February 2014.
The theme of the 2015 Expo is Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life, considering the practicalities of providing healthy food from sustainable sources for the worldwide population as well as considering the rich cultural elements that go hand in hand with food and drink.
The successful multidisciplinary team will need to meet the bar set by Thomas Heatherwick and his team at the 2010 Shanghai Expo with the dandelion-esque UK Pavilion and those teams involved in the London 2012 Olympic Games. As Malcolm Reading, architect and competition organiser explains, this year it is ‘the exhibition content which should determine the design of the structure’.
Christine Losecaat, Creative Director for the UK Pavilion Milan 2015, said: “We are seeking a team who can come up with a great concept which sends a powerful message about modern Britain to an international audience.
“There are some incredibly exciting developments taking place in Britain’s agri-tech, life sciences and food and drink sectors: this is a fantastic opportunity to show them off to the world. We also hope the winning design will include a legacy - whether physical, experiential or virtual - which we can use for future events around the globe.”
The deadline for expressions of interest is 19 February 2014. The shortlist for the second stage will be announced in early March and, following a public exhibition of the shortlisted entries, the winning team is expected to be announced in May.
