Smooth office block near Limassol waterfront receives planning permission
Atkins has released concept designs for a pebble-inspired office building in Limassol which has now achieved planning permission. Suitably termed ‘The Oval’, this new commercial tower will offer a series of generous office units looking out over the coastline with each floor incorporating a south-facing veranda.
These verandas are part of an extended sustainability focus across the project, providing shading to minimise heat gain. The external envelope of The Oval incorporates a climate control system with south- and north-facing facades sporting a double glazed window system with horizontal overhangs to the south side. East- and west-facing facades will be finished with a conventional rain screen cladding system.
A short film released by Atkins shows The Oval standing proudly in Limassol’s business district, metres from the waterfront. Surrounded by relatively low rise developments the rounded form of the new commercial block is even more prominent on the skyline of this vibrant city.
Hakim Khennouchi, Atkins’ lead design director, said: “Our architecture projects around the world always aim to respond to the varying conditions and demands of climate, culture and economics. In this case, The Oval’s distinctive shape was inspired by the round pebbles found on Limassol shoreline, creating a form which contrasts sharply with the cityscape to stand out as a unique, yet sustainable, address. It is a fantastic addition to our portfolio.”
