Winning with WAN scores hat trick…
It’s always great when the dots start to join up, seeing a picture build before your eyes. Henning Larsen Architects first hit the WAN radar in 2010 when their dramatic Der Spiegel HQ in Hamburg was shortlisted for the WAN AWARDS Commercial Buildings Future Projects category.
So when the headline Henning Larsen Architects, COBE and SLA have won the international design competition for the European Spallation Source (ESS), in Lund, Sweden popped up on WAN, a cheer went up from our WAN Business Information team as they had supplied the Danish firm with the tender opportunity.
Publishing some 50 global tenders every day, our service is often referred to as architecture’s best kept secret. Like a fantastic undiscovered sandy bay, our winners naturally want to keep the location secret but every now and then we’re delighted when one goes public. Amalia Gonzales Dahl, Head of Business Development, Henning Larsen Architects A/S says: “WAN Business Information Service has a clear interface and simple navigation which allows us to survey global opportunities easily and quickly, and helps us stay up-to-date on development trends in various markets.”
The ESS is set to become the world's largest and most advanced facility for neutron-based research.
But the story doesn’t end there as the engineers behind the design are non-other than Buro Happold, sponsors of the WAN Effectiveness Award. Rod Manson, Buro Happold Project Principal for ESS said: “We’re delighted to be working again with Henning Larsen and to be playing a key role in realising this exciting and inspiring new project. The ESS is at the forefront of technology and research so it’s a project that’s very close to Buro Happold’s own aspirations and innovative achievements.”
So to coin a hackneyed phrase it’s win, win, win…
