MulvannyG2 Architecture designs world-class destination in the heart of Panjin
As one of the fastest-growing cities in China, Panjin encompasses China’s growing high-tech industry. It is also home to one of the largest natural marshland habitats in the country. This development respects both considerations by creating an iconic urban landmark and a world-class mixed-use destination that meets the market demand for luxury lifestyle amenities and serves as a multi-generational destination for people to live, work, shop and play.
The design concept was inspired by the natural beauty of Panjin’s landscape. The flowing motif of the tower and undulating form of the development nods to Panjin’s tall grassy wetlands and native crane. Metaphorcally, the 250-metre-tall tower represents the long-necked crane, while the six-storey retail podium, seven residential towers and plaza are the wetlands.
Sustainable features include maximum daylighting and an atrium roof garden above the podium that controls heat gain, integrating operable windows and roof gardens that absorb rain and provide water to fountains and landscape. Soft curves are reflected throughout the project as building forms and circulation patterns remain fluid, bringing flow and unity to the various amenities including retail, outdoor skating rink, performance area and amphitheater.
The mall concourse, composed with gentle curves, guides visitors from the busy commercial street corners, merging and filtering them through the lush gardens of the shopping centre and into the tranquil residential zone.
