BAU are back with the latest technology, products and materials

Five decades later and still running strong, BAU is due to be back again next January 2013! Celebrating its 20th show, BAU will be setting up at Messe München Exhibition Center, Munich from 14-19 January 2013, filling the spaces with a trade fair busting with new architectural solutions, materials and systems for commercial and residential construction and for interior fit-out, for both new-build and renovation and modernisation purposes. The key themes are future of the industry, in particular sustainability and building for life, which play an important role in all sections of the exhibition.

Once again the event is expected to attract around 2,000 exhibitors from more than 40 countries and approximately 240,000 visitors from all over the world. Every two years this renowned event brings together market leaders from the sector to participate in a unique international display of competence spanning all the construction trades. BAU is also the world´s largest trade fair for architects and construction engineers, attracting around 50,000 design professionals.

This year the exhibits will be organized according to building material and also product and theme areas. Accompanying the presentations, the key themes at BAU will be covered and illustrated in forums and special shows. They will come from a number of different perspectives and aspects to create some very unique events.

For this year's show BAU has identified four themes: Sustainability, Building for Life, Urban Development in the 21st Century and Energy 2.0. These have been identified as defining the design and construction of buildings in the coming years and decades. In the exhibition these key themes will set the tone for BAU 2013 and be a starting point for discussions and key inspiration. Many exhibitors will be orienting their presentations these themes and showcasing appropriate solutions. In addition the supporting program, including high-caliber forums with experts from all over the world, round off this industry showcase.

In the forums architects, construction engineers and project developers will be explaining and discussing the key themes from a variety of aspects. Some of the special talks include: ‘TomorrowTown-Intelligent building for the city of the future,' hosted by Fraunhofer Building Alliance; and ‘Sustainable building products. More transparency promotes better decisions,' where the DGNB will be giving architects and planners decision tools which they can use when choosing sustainable building products.

This time, continuing from before, BAU has noted that sustainability has become significant in shaping the building industry, to an even greater extent than in other sectors of society. Therefore it is no surprise that it has become the overarching theme that dominates at the fair.

The theme of sustainability is closely associated with BAU, and the same is true of the institutions that are involved with and promote sustainability. The organisation has noted that a great deal has been achieved in the field of sustainability in recent years. There is widespread agreement that the concept encompasses the entire life cycle of buildings (from planning and use through to demolition) and appropriate assessment systems have been developed worldwide for the certification of sustainable buildings.
