Rintala Eggertsson Architects opens up
Over the next few weeks, we’ll be posing ten probing questions to this year’s WAN 21 for 21 Award winners to find out about the teams behind the titles. First up is Rintala Eggertsson Architects, a young Norwegian firm whose ‘well crafted projects’ quickly won over our jury panel.
Where do you find your inspiration?
We find our inspiration in people who believe in quality, who want to offer more to their contemporaries and the afterworld, and reach that level with their passion, vision and hard work, living to the full the possibilities that lay within them and not letting them down.
What made you want to be an architect?
Architect means a master builder. We would like to become that.
Which of your projects are you most proud of and why?
It is hard to compare different projects with one another when programs and site conditions are varying completely. It sometimes feels like they are your children which you have to let go of and let them communicate with the world around them on their own. It can be an emotional moment when you see them grow into a context in a far-away place where you never thought you would put your foot in the first place.
What does design mean to you?
Design is giving form to an idea. It takes place constantly in everyone’s daily life, all the way up to the highest decision making levels of the society. The more important question is naturally how we all can become better designers.
Where in the world would you most like to work that you haven’t yet?
All points on the planet are different, there is no two same. We are evenly interested in all of them as a starting point.
Who would you most like to collaborate with?
Constructively and progressively thinking, positive and kind people from all walks of life.
What characteristics are most important for an architect?
Sensitivity, curiosity and endurance.
Which established architects do you look up to?
We meet plenty of interesting architects constantly, whose work and life are to be admired. Still it is nice to mention architects Bijoy Jain and Wang Shu in this context.
What does being recognised by the WAN 21 for 21 Award mean to you?
We are getting good energy from this recognizion. It is good to be tapped on the shoulder and encourages you to work even harder for your next goals.
What do you think of your fellow 21 for 21 winning architecture studios?
Their work is exemplary and perhaps most precise way to answer the previous question is that the finest thing about this prize is to be standing among them.
