Bamboo Wing restaurant in Vietnam exemplifies the merits of steel-free design
These stunning images showcase a breathtaking restaurant and event venue by Vo Trong Nghia Co., Ltd at Flamingo Dai Lai Resort in Vinh Phuc province, Vietnam. Constructed entirely using bamboo as a structural and finishing material, the rustic interior is the perfect backdrop for romantic dinners, celebratory drinks and events such as weddings or official ceremonies.
Reaching 1,600 sq m into the lush green resort, Bamboo Wing was inspired by feathered bird wings which can be seen in the rise and fall of the bamboo arches. These bowed structural pillars which form the backbone of the project also add to the aesthetic properties of the design, their banded strands lending a relaxed quality to the interior space.
The intelligent arrangement of structural columns has enabled an unobstructed view across the semi-circular restaurant which bends around a peaceful expanse of water. Visitors gain access to the eatery across a small floating platform which intensifies the dining experience and gives the restaurant the appearance that it too is floating.
Bamboo Wing has been designed to optimise natural ventilation, capturing gusts of wind through its ‘wings’ and reducing the volume’s dependency on air conditioning in this humid environment. Vo Trong Nghia Co., Ltd details: “With its deep eaves and the water in the open spaces, people feel as if they are living in nature. [The handling of bamboo] is an achievement not only in terms of structures in bamboo but it also creates a new trend for new ecological materials which are easily available in Vietnam.”
