narch completes new residential building in the heart of Catalonia
This communicative building by narch is designed with a unitary and neutral treatment, in which the successive skins superimposed generate multiple and changeable reflections of unexpected opaqueness and create atmospheric effects. During the night, the facades are transformed into a lamp that provide a sifted and porous light, which generates a light urban milestone.
The dwellings are organised by a flexible and multifunctional form about a central core of baths that allows circular route around them, natural crossed ventilation and transverse views of the house. A second skin of translucent white laminated glass on the south facade works as a solar filter that generates luminous, ethereal and qualified intermediate spaces.
Located in a continental climate by marked contrasts in temperature between day and night and summer and winter, and conditioned by the orientation from west to east. The main strategy was to achieve energy from the south facade to spread the gains in all rooms. The south facade was provided by a gallery comprised of a fully double-glazed sliding skin - the inner and outer transparent translucent facades system - adaptable, flexible and multifunctional, to boost profits and reduce energy losses according to the requirements of the seasons and the users. A free, dynamic, flexible and light composition provides mobility and adaptability.
A cavity wall facade faces south-east, south-west and north. More than 80% of dwellings receive, between 10 a.m. and 12 a.m. in winter time, direct sunlight. Each dwelling has natural cross ventilation. A pre-industrialised system based on panels is used in all facades. Recycled materials obtained from building products are used in the building. Renewable energy sources include solar panels for warming sanitary water. Community spaces are lit with light sensors without adversely affecting the lighting quality.
