Environmentally certified, award-winning atrium townhouses in existing suburban area close to Frölunda Torg in Gothenburg
The Apple Orchard is a successful example of the densification often called in the debate. The former monotonous suburban area is treated to a green supplement. The challenge was to define and seize upon the new blocks very own identity against the prevailing character of the town centre, as well as integrate them into the existing urban fabric and add value to the area as a whole.
Apple Orchard is the result of a successful collaboration between White and F O Peterson. White has acted as both architect and builder. The overall grip allows us to put the architecture and long-term housing finance in short-term economics of the project. Through the increased responsibility, we learn more about the process, finance and marketing, all at great benefit to our customers in other architectural assignments.
Garden and home in the atrium is mixed in a tight alley with very good qualities for homes, private patios and common rooms. One of the fundamental qualities of the apartments are the contact with the garden. We have created 'talking' houses where the ground floors are open and life is shown in a safe outdoor environment around buildings, which also contributes to increased security in the area.
A variation in the colour of the atrium houses will give them an individual look. Facade and roof are covered by fiber cement slabs that are both beautiful to watch and protect against the elements. The houses are of a high profile sustainability, and the environment is classified as 'Build Environment'.
