SJB bring flamboyant design to the corner of 29th Street in New York
This new eighteen-story lifestyle hotel is located in the up-and-coming Gramercy North neighbourhood of New York City. The 249-key urban resort includes a large number of public and accessory spaces. The hotel's base consists of honed and polished dark granite framing sections of three-story glass curtain wall. Above the third floor, the facades are bronze coloured metal panels and floor-to-ceiling windows. The corner of the building features a 150-foot tall glass column containing colour-changing LEDs. While the materials are contemporary, the colour of the façade blends with its neighbours during the daytime. At night, the corner glass column brings a splash of colour and excitement to this stretch of Park Avenue South.
The lobby is a dramatic three-story space with a black and white herringbone granite floor, oversized plum coloured chandeliers and fireplace, and Venetian plaster walls. The old world Park Avenue lobby has been redefined into a dynamic contemporary space through the use of scale, materials, colours and eclectic juxtapositions. The ground floor also consists of a restaurant, bar and retail space. The third floor houses pre-function and ballroom spaces, as well as a spa, fitness room, sauna and hairdressers.
The typical hotel floors have generously proportioned guestrooms and corner suites, many with balconies, four-post beds and comfortable seating with work areas. Sophisticated and minimalist, the guestrooms feature a colour palatte of neutrals and greys accented with splashes of fuchsia and lavender. The spa-like bathrooms include glass tile walls, a trough sink, a separate glass enclosed shower and soaking tub. The bathrooms are zen like sanctuaries, offering the guests the ultimate retreat from the stresses of the city. The triplex rooftop, open to the public contains bars, the Red and Blue Room hospitality suites, a heated indoor-outdoor pool and views of the Empire State Building.
