DP Architects to raise international profile with retail complex Doha Festival City
DP Architects is set to amplify its presence as one of the retail design leaders in the Middle East with Doha Festival City. The groundbreaking of the QR6bn (S$2bn) mega retail complex is expected to take place this month and the complex, with an impressive site area of 433,847 sq m, is poised to become the new super retail and entertainment hub of the State of Qatar.
The complex boasts a retail section with the best in class international, regional and local brands, an entertainment and theme park, hospitality and conference facilities, and auto showrooms. DP Architects is the designer, with Arab Engineering Bureau (AEB) appointed as the project architect.
Initiated by Bawabat Al Shamal Real Estate Company WLC (BASREC), this mega complex, scheduled for completion in 2014, along with World Cup 2022, hopes to spike the economic development of Qatar and its neighbours. The interior design, also by DP Architects, is inspired by nature and the elements of wind, water, wood and earth.
The design concept brings the various ambiences and atmospheres of Mother Nature into a mall environment and also reinterprets the elements in novel forms. Within the retail loops there will be four distinct interior zones – Water Concourse, Garden Promenade, Rainforest Broadwalk and Fashion Galleria. The four zones offer different experiences for shoppers. Doha Festival City is located 15 km from downtown Doha on Al Shamal Road, one of the main arterial routes to Doha city centre.
DP Architects' recent landmark project, the Dhs2.7bn The Dubai Mall, received the ICSC Gold award in the Innovative Design and Development of a New Retail Project category in 2010. Following the success of The Dubai Mall, DP Architects continues to raise its international profile and invigorate the global retail scene with Doha Festival City.
