Artistic talents turn out to help Frank Gehry celebrate his 82nd birthday in New York

Celebrated architect Frank Gehry was joined by artistic friends and family this weekend at his stylish 82nd birthday party in New York City. Fittingly held on the 76th floor of the designer’s first skyscraper, New York by Gehry , attendees including Marilyn Taylor, Bono, Mike Nichols, David Childs, Chuck Close, Robert A.M. Stern and Alex Cooper celebrated not only the birthday of the building’s renowned architect but also the official opening of the 1.1million sq ft tower.

Artists, designers, architects and creatives gathered at the building’s large free-form bay windows to gaze at the largest moon the world had seen in eighteen years on Saturday night. The immense glass panels afforded stunning 360° views to the esteemed guests, who took pride of place on the top floor of the 870ft tower. During the evening, a quirky 40inch architectural cake in Gehry’s highly recognisable abstract style was presented to the clearly delighted man of the hour.
