Populous gains a 'terrific boost' in the form of Time ‘Top 100 Innovator' Dan Meis, FAIA

Populous announced today that Dan Meis, FAIA, has joined the firm as a senior principal. He will lead the firm’s new Los Angeles-area office in the United States. The announcement is aligned with an 18-month transformation of the firm to Populous – a practice dedicated to the design of highly experiential buildings and urban spaces.

“A year ago when we became Populous, the notion was to reinvent the way fans experienced sports, entertainment and exhibition events around the world,” said Earl Santee, Populous senior principal. “Dan will provide a terrific boost to this transformation.”

Named one of Time magazine’s 100 innovators in the world of sports, Meis brings an award-winning international design portfolio to Populous. His work over the past 25 years has spanned four continents, including developments in the United Kingdom, Japan, United States, China, Brazil and Qatar.

In the US, Meis’ Paul Brown Stadium was the first NFL stadium to win an American Institute of Architects design award. Meis twice was recognized as a Sports Business Journal 40 under 40 award winner. Currently, he is designing a new NFL prototype stadium for Los Angeles (see images on left) and he will continue to work on that project at Populous.

“The repositioning of the Populous practice to focus on the design of places for people and the experience of these buildings brings a vision to this marketplace that is unique,” said Meis. “I am very excited to play a part in that vision and to offer clients the kind of out of the box creativity I have always strived for with the support of the world's most experienced architects of this building type."
