Manchester City Council gives green light for Student Castle Tower in city centre

A 33-storey residential tower designed by Hodder and Partners for developers Student Castle has been granted planning permission by Manchester City Council. The building will supply self-contained and communal accommodation for 520 university students in the dynamic city. Designed as part of the Great Marlborough Scheme, when completed the structure will stand at 109m tall and will be classified as the second tallest building in Manchester after the Beetham Tower.

Student Castle – co-founded by Carphone Warehouse figurehead Charles Dunstone – are said to be targeting additional UK cities as part of a student accommodation development scheme. Edward Cade, CEO of the young property development company, said: “We are delighted to have been awarded planning permission for this landmark scheme in Manchester. As a new, expert developer within the sector we are pleased to have this opportunity to make a positive contribution to the regional economy and higher education sector in one of the UK’s most vibrant cities.”

With University of Manchester, Manchester Metropolitan University and University of Salford all within a short distance of one another, student accommodation is in short supply. Cade continued: “At Student Castle we are committed to changing the perception of traditional private student accommodation by meeting 21st century student aspiration, with a focus on delivering high quality, affordable homes for students.”
