I love waterfront projects and this one seems like a real plum! Maximizing the view, exposure and relationship to the water is great. That's what it is all about.

Allen Jack+Cottier completes luxury housing development in Sydney

Watermarque is a quintessentially Sydney luxury abode, with its sparkling glass facade floating on a waterfront site, dotted with sculptural Angophora trees on a sandstone cliff. This AUD$4.25 million project features a four-storey building with four exclusive luxury waterfront apartments, complete with individual lifts that service the private lobby of each apartment.

Expansive views overlooking Mosman Bay in Sydney’s northshore, with ferries and yachts plying the glistening waters, gave Australian architectural firm Allen Jack+Cottier a picturesque canvas to work with. However, the challenge was to design the new apartments within the strict confines of the original building, maximising the panoramic water views for the client, without compromising the existing views of its adjoining properties.

After an intricate process of consultation with the local council and its surrounding residents, Allen Jack+Cottier created a design that was sensitive to the urban environment by maintaining harmony in the colours with the locality, and mimicking the roof shapes with prevailing forms in the area. The long axis of the site faces north, optimising access to sunlight. The building is deliberately set further back from the shore, increasing the landscape area and communal access to a boat shed and private jetty while at the same time, creating a natural sense of transition from the bay.

Each individual apartment is spacious, allowing natural cross-ventilation, ample windows and several living rooms. Operable walls within the space can be closed for added privacy and selective heating or opened for stylish entertaining and open plan living. The high standard of materials and overall finish is exemplified by the extensive stone flooring, which continues seamlessly from internal to external living areas, creating a truly luxurious Sydney lifestyle.
