Some beautifully seductive imagery here. the grainy monochrome model shots don't do the idea justice though.

Having used Norreport Station almost daily during my nine months of studying architecture in Denmark, the Station has special meaning. It's nice to see a much needed upgrade to the Station. I would be interseted to know what is happening at the platform level below the streets.

Collaborative design wins Nørreport Train Station competition

Danish Architects COBE, in collaboration with Public Architects, Grontmij Carlbro and Bartenbach LichtLabor, are to transform the tired Nørreport Train Station in Copenhagen into a 'natural gathering place' after they were awarded first place in the international design competition for the structure.

Nørreport Train Station is the busiest train station in Denmark with around 250,000 persons passing daily. Under the title 'More than just a station' the competition focussed on the drastic need to improve the Nørreport area and the station which plays an important daily part in people's lives. The contestants were challenged with creating greater cohesion between buildings and with the surrounding area, and a sustainable design which embodied the spirit of non-pollutant transport. The winning design is conceived as a series of rounded, almost floating roofs covering individual transparent glass pavilions. All station facilities will be visible and easily accessible and the station will appear like an open and welcoming public space.

Celebrating Copenhagen's achievements as the world’s best bicycle city, bicycle parking will be a visible and central element in the future urban space and will be lit by innumerable LED lights in the night.

11 high-tech ventilation towers will be placed on the plaza surrounding the train station providing fresh air to the underlying train platforms. The towers will also function as lightning on the plaza and as digital information pillars with fully integrated LED screens for information about train departures, cultural events, advertisement etc.

“Nørreport Train Station has a special significance for all residents in Copenhagen. We look forward to develop our proposal and deliver a new train station which will be a new useful urban space for all people in Copenhagen” says Dan Stubbergaard, Partner-in-Charge, COBE.
