Combining the history and the future of concert performance in one venue...today
The design of “the O2 Dublin” represents best practice in architectural design due to the unique response to the existing listed historical building, the urban context and developing master plan of the Dublin Docklands North Lotts area and the challenging functional and technical criteria for this building type, while creating a visually respectful yet contemporary design.
The new building is a significant landmark on the river Liffey, with a unique roof design that combines the use of diaphanous façade elements that create an ethereal quality both during the day and at night, enhanced by a unique programmable dynamic colour changing lighting design. These effects are achieved from within the building also as the cityscape is refracted through the building envelope creating a sense of drama and spectacle for the building patrons.
The unique auditorium achieves the highest international standards, offering up to 14,000 seated and standing capacity with outstanding flexibility to create the right ambience for smaller events by screening off parts of the seating bowl. Despite its large capacity the auditorium offers an intimate arrangement where all spectators are seated within a maximum of 60m from the farthest staging position.
The public spaces combine efficient circulation with comfort and serviceability with a special emphasis on creating a diversity of spatial experience to enhance patron experience throughout. Multiple viewing locations to the dramatic docklands and citywide exterior provide contextual reference points from within.
The Populous design has provided a state-of-the-art arena which positions The O2 Dublin as one of Ireland’s most exciting entertainment venues.
