America's 11 most endangered historic places revealed

The National Trust for Historic Preservation has released its 2009 list of the most endangered historic locations in the United States of America. This year mark's the 22nd list of its kind aimed at raising awareness of the serious threats facing America's greatest treasures. 211 sites were listed in total with 11 noted as most endangered.

The list includes Hilario Candela's Miami Marine Stadium. Completed in 1963, Miami Marine Stadium is both a South Florida landmark and an icon of modern design. Built entirely of poured concrete and featuring a dramatically cantilevered folded-plate roof, the stadium is a sentimental favorite of many Miami residents. After sustaining damage during Hurricane Andrew in 1992, the stadium, a prime target for developers, closed and has since suffered from years of deterioration, vandalism and neglect.

Portsmouth's Memorial Bridge has also made the list. As the first major lift bridge in eastern US it has been a sturdy and dramatic landmark for more than 85 years but due to postponed maintenance and tight budgets, it now faces possible removal due to disrepair.
