New additions for Concordia International School
Founded in 1998 with 22 students and 14 faculty members, this school approaches learning from an international perspective and has grown to include over 100 teachers and 1,000 students representing a diverse global perspective.
The architect planned, designed and implemented phased expansions to the existing 10-acre campus. The master plan included a new 64,600 sf elementary school and a new 24,000 sf fine arts center.
Located on opposite axes of the campus, the elementary school and fine arts center serve as "bookends", framing a campus that stimulates interaction between students and teachers and encouraging each student’s progression from elementary to middle to high school, while nurturing the academic and social connections for the entire campus community.
Designed to foster creativity, the fine arts center stimulates artistic exploration and interaction between students and teachers while incorporating spatial and technological flexibility, enabling multi-use during and after school hours by students and the surrounding community. Designed as a center of creativity and enrichment, the facility is a social hub containing a modified "blue box" that can be reconfigured as a recital hall, a thrust or proscenium theater or a lecture hall, and roof-top terrace where students draw inspiration from the Pudong skyline.
