Nikken Sekkai's university building looks good without the make-up

In the campus, there is a historic building, “Koshien Hotel,” the design of which follows that of the school of Frank Lloyd Wright, which was converted to a school building prior to the opening of the architectural department. In designing an additional building as 'studio building', the theme was to establish such architectural design as goes well with the historic building and also introduces green-rich environment of the site into the inside of the building.

The building has a spacious entrance hall filled with natural light from top lights. In the floor plan, the hall is surrounded by a variety of rooms such as large studio rooms, review room, teachers’ room, seminar rooms and design work exhibition gallery. The building consists of slender pre-cast columns, joist plates, and massive reinforced concrete members with no decorative finishing, which enables for students to learn essence of authentic architecture.
