Architectus Auckland plan the Wynyard Quarter Project
The Wynyard Quarter Project establishes an Urban Design Framework plan to guide the future redevelopment of this strategic waterfront site. Located on a reclaimed peninsula to the west of Auckland’s CBD and comprises approx 20 hectares of waterfront land and maritime structures.
The concept plan seeks to establish powerful contextual connections to Auckland’s wider landscape, and strengthen urban connections to existing waterfront activity and the adjacent CBD.
The plan proposes an open space framework that will provide a number of iconic waterfront spaces, urban plazas and streetscapes which will contribute to the realisation of a high quality waterfront.
The plan also includes urban design guidelines to guide the future development of the built environment and to establish a diverse program of uses which builds upon existing waterfront activities and industry.
A staged development strategy will guide site remediation, infrastructural upgrades and proposed commercial, retail, residential, mixed and recreational uses.
A network of land and water based public transport will provided increased accessibility to new waterfront spaces and improved pedestrian amenity across the precinct. Within the wider concept the design also proposes more detailed design solutions for stormwater, new bridge structures, public wharves and event spaces.
