Plaza designed by Bothwell Site Design, LLC marries outdoor art with transportation hub.

The design of this busy urban park near the Town Green deftly manages the needs of both commuters and observers of contemporary art. The objective of the design was to provide an “outdoor studio”, a raw space for the experimental art, and community events that are continually rotated in the space. A paved plaza faces the street and bus loading area. A rectangular plaza of crushed bluestone is set off-angle from the street, which creates dynamic spaces against the exposed brick and vine-covered concrete walls for art installation. A grove of trees adhering to the angle of the plaza implies separation of uses while also unifying the park. Recycled stone benches, salvaged wood utility poles for suspending lighting and multimedia art and on-site stormwater storage are some of the low-impact ecological solutions to fulfill program requirements with limited resources. Project funded by Federal Transit Authority.
