Mumbai Metro progressing

Mumbai Metro running along VAG (Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar) will be environment friendly with a special consumer focus. With a vision to make Mumbai’s first Metro a “Green Metro”, Mumbai Metro One Private Limited has undertaken number of initiatives to ensure that the project is developed as per the best environment friendly Global practices and set benchmarks for Corporate Responsibility for protecting and promoting good environment practices. MMOPL is planning to go for an environment rating system, which is being monitored in the country by Confederation of Indian Industry and LEED-India. As the first step, MMOPL has already conducted a feasibility study for its administrative building and station buildings for which results are positive and encouraging.

In order to give the passengers a world-class travel experience at affordable price, Mumbai Metro will offer state-of-the-art facilities to its travelers along the VAG route. Starting from automatic fare collection system to travel in AC coaches, the passengers will have a truly unique experience. The stations will be provided with escalators for accessing concourse and platform levels. They will have automatic fare collection gates for entry and exit, which will not only save commuter’s time but also help in handling large number of passengers. Besides, VAG route will have world-class fire retardant air-conditioned coaches for a fast and comfortable journey. Each train will comprise 4 to 6 coaches with facilities like automatic doors with obstruction detection, onboard passenger announcement system, CCTV for continuous surveillance and monitoring. The trains will run at a frequency of 3.5 minutes completing the entire journey in 21 minutes thus serving over 6 lakhs passengers daily. Also, there will be special lifts for the physically challenged at the stations and special provisions in the trains.
