This home is one of my favourite Westside houses, and a regular stop on the Vancouver modern Home Tour. This home was designed by mid-century modern architect Robert McKee in 1956, and renovated by Nick Milkovich Architects in 2007. Better known as the Waroway House, and the only McKee House to be renovated in the area - The Courtyard house also features a landscape re-design by renowned landscape architect Cornelia.

Vancouver house gets major overhaul.

This project is a renovation and addition to a mid-century modernist house located in Vancouver, BC, Canada. The original house was a single storey square bungalow with a central courtyard and a fully glazed north façade with views across Howe Sound to the Coast Mountains.

The mandate for this project was to add complimentary living and work space that reinforced the original concept of a simple and modern living space enhanced by its natural surroundings. This was accomplished by adding two new wings separated by a reflecting pond on axis with the original courtyard, and the views beyond. Finishes on both the exterior and interior utilize a muted palette of materials to reinforce the harmony of living space mediated by its surroundings.
