Project Moves to the 3D Phase – Demolish, Dig, Design

One of the biggest planning applications in European history was submitted today as the Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) moved into the next stage of delivering the venues and infrastructure for the London 2012 Olympic Games and Paralympic Games. At the forefront of the 15-volume, 10,000-page document are plans for new sporting venues, highways, bridges, river works, utilities, parks, open space, and their post-Games reconfiguration for legacy use. The application covers a land area of 246 hectares (2.5 sq kilometres) and sets the vision for one of the largest urban parks to be built in Europe for 150 years. As announced last year there have been changes to the masterplan since winning the bid and this new planning application now reflects these. Changes include: better integrating the Olympic Village with the Stratford City Development; relocating the International Broadcast Centre and Main Press Centre to within the Park boundary and providing a more compact layout of venues and Park facilities for Games time and legacy use. These improvements also maximise the legacy benefits of the Park, and place a greater focus on sustainable development.
