2125 Yale celebrated a grand opening in February 2009. The high density urban infill is poised as a new landmark in Houston's historical neighborhood, The Heights. Houston Heights is one of the oldest parts of Houston. Its filled with old Victorian homes and has its own downtown that has been turned into antique shops and restaurants in the area, all within walking distance of 2125 Yale, statesTim Myers, managing partner at Allied Realty Services Ltd., the developer.

The project is the only multifamily development in the area and has received resounding postive feedback from the local residents and business community.

The two-acre site, which was originally built in 1913, was a family-owned store and evolved into a small department store in the 1930s. In an effort to preserve the historical significance of the site, Allied Realty Services restored the yellow pine flooring and incorporated it into select residences, as well as the 5,000-sq.-ft. clubhouse.

Houston-based architects Meeks Partners planned and designed the structure to resemble a warehouse but with residential finishes to allow for the transition between commercial and residential.

Meeks + Partners' luxury apartment community breaks ground in historic Houston neighborhood

Construction has broken ground on 2125 Yale on a prominent two-acre site in the heart of The Heights, one of Houston’s first annexed towns and oldest neighborhoods. Planned and designed by Meeks + Partners this full block development is the first high-density podium-style multifamily community in The Heights. The property will feature a unique mix of one-bedroom units that range in size from 700 square feet to 864 square feet and two-bedroom units that range in size from 1,224 square feet to 1,378 square feet. A two-level structured parking garage with pedestrian bridges, stairwells and three elevators will provide direct access to homes, the community center and pool courtyard. Masking the parking structure, a green ivycovered metal screen will wrap the walls, providing natural ventilation. The distinct modern architecture will maintain the urban framework of the city with pedestrian-friendly street-walls addressing the four streets, principally Yale and 22nd Street. To maintain an open feel, the design solution for the 195-unit community focused closely on site planning and spatial composition by wrapping the four-story structures around two courtyards. The site is surrounded by preserved oak trees and contains a fully landscaped perimeter fenced-in dog-walking area. In order to alleviate traffic and limit concerns from the Victorian Heights Association, the property’s entrance was positioned near Yale Street, with another entrance to the garage, along 21st Street. The design features an exterior palette of glass, masonry, structural steel and metal siding to suggest urbanity and luxury. To soften the industrial aesthetic on the building’s facade along Yale Street, brown metal siding was introduced to replicate wood, linking the multifamily community to the singlefamily neighborhood.
