Skidmore, Owings & Merrill is granted planning permission for the Ballymore development
The London Thames Gateway Development Corporation has resolved to grant planning consent for the Ballymore development at Leamouth Peninsula. The scheme will create a large number of new homes and jobs, providing a significant contribution to the regeneration of the local area.
Planning permission has been granted for a dynamic scheme that will transform this 11 acre brownfield site into a vibrant mixed-use community. Leamouth Peninsula, formerly home to the Pura foods factory, is located opposite the Millennium Dome and forms a gateway to the London 2012 Olympics in the Lower Lea Valley. The 1.9 million sq feet (177,980 sq. metres) scheme features:
Provision of up to 1837 homes, a new pedestrian and cycle bridge linking Canning Town to the site, an independent Primary School for 371 pupils, which also includes a nursery, an arts centre, a community centre, flexible workspace for creative industries, a contribution in excess of £9m towards a range of measures including health, education, public transport improvements, off site highway improvements and off site open space.
Work is expected to commence in the autumn of 2007, with delivery of the bridge and the first homes in 2009.
