Mustique, the Grenadines, West Indies

The Indigo Residence is a family vacation villa located on the Caribbean island of Mustique, West Indies. Situated on seven acres of sloping hillside overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, the villa is comprised of 4000 square feet of open-air spaces and 7000 square feet of enclosed area. This includes the main family quarters and separate houses for guests and staff. The complex consists of a swimming pool and terrace, a water court, garden courts and sunbathing/showering patios, indoor and outdoor dining areas and a rooftop terrace. Considerations of local climate and conditions were paramount in the design and construction of the project. Durable local and traditional building finishes are incorporated into the villa’s design, as are hurricane and termite resistant construction techniques. Water tanks with a storage capacity of 120,000 gallons collect rainwater run-off. The villa is equipped with a water purification system, an on-site irrigation network and a self-contained domestic wastewater treatment plant. Solar energy collection systems offset water heating costs and energy efficient appliances and lighting systems are used throughout.
