Calatrava'a Valencia Opera House opens to the public

Looking like it is right out of Star Wars, Santiago Calatrava'a Valencia Opera House opened to the public on 25 October. The project is the third major building to be completed in the architect's 86-acre Magnum Opus dubbed the City of Arts and Sciences, which also houses a planetarium and a science museum. The 475,000 sq ft waterside structure, which is constructed of white concrete shells and features dramatic cantilevered balconies, houses a 1706-seat auditorium, three adiitional performance spaces, an exhibition gallery, and a restaurant. Calatrava has designed murals and ceramic bas-relief sculptures for the building. The project cost 373 million euros.
