New York based Rafael Viñoly Architects have just celebrated the fifth year of operation of their London office which services projects in Europe. Having recently completed the Mahler 4 tower in Amsterdam, the office is now working on the Leicester Performing Arts Centre. Drawing on experience of his Kimmel Centre in Philadelphia and the Jazz at the Lincoln Centre, New York, Vinoly is aiming to further break down the barriers between font and back of house. This is partly achieved by the use of an overhead grid which encompasses the entire complex blurring the boundaries of performance and audience. The theatre has two auditoria of 750 and 350 seats and will open early in 2008.
